Don’t worry, you are not alone! Here at Pure Gold Medical, Dr. Apodaca and the rest of our professional and caring staff can help walk you through these decisions and provide a little more insight and information to move you forward in your transformation process. Or maybe you don’t have millions of questions and you would just like to know a little more information on what breast augmentation is and whether it’s right for you. Nonetheless, you are in the right place.
What is Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure where implants are inserted into the breasts in order to add volume, enhance, and enlarge them as well. You are in control of the kind of transformation that you want, so you get to choose how much big you want your breast implants to be, as well as the size and shape of your breasts. This procedure also helps to even out breasts if they are asymmetrical.
We offer several different types of breast augmentationprocedures:
• Local (Awake) Sedation Breast Augmentation
We pride ourselves in our ability to keep our patients comfortable and relaxed. With this specific procedure, we use a local anesthesia and we will administer a mild sedation until your body become comfortably numb. Also, along with this option, you can choose to add on a breast lift if needed or if it’s just something that you’d like to have.
• Deep Sedation Breast Augmentation
If you would rather not be awake at all during your procedure, that’s totally okay, too! Deep sedation would be the better option for you. With this procedure, you can be put to sleep without any breathing tubes, and without the worry of waking up and feeling any sort of nausea. We have a certified anesthesiologist who will assist in making sure that you are asleep throughout the whole procedure. You can enjoy the wonderful results of a breast augmentation without accompanied anxiousness of being awake during the surgical operation.
• Breast Lifts & Reductions
Another type of breast augmentation procedure that we offer are breast lifts and reductions. So, if your breasts are too big for your frame or don’t match the size and shape that you wish it did, this option would work best for you.
All the decisions that you are going to makefor this procedure are important, and the implant that you end up deciding on is one of the most important. There are a few different aspects of the implant that you have to choose from, and some of those include:
• Silicone or Saline
o Silicone: These implants are made of an elastic gel that feels a lot like your natural breast tissues.
o Saline: These implants are made up of sterile saltwater, also known as saline.
• Smooth or Textured
o After the implants are placed in the breast the body forms protective scar tissues around it. Smooth implants are less likely to stick to the scar tissue and have less likely of a chance to cause ripplings on the edges of the implants. Textured implants are firmer than smooth, but they do stick to the scar tissue and they don’t move around as much.
o The most common implant sizes range from 200cc to 850cc. Feel free to come in for a consultation with cup/implant sizes in mind or even photo examples of what you want your breast profile to resemble. We aim to help you achieve the exact look that you want, and we will help you to find the right implants for your new look.
• Subpectoral or Subglandular
o Both subpectoral and subglandular implants are widely used. Subpectoral implants are placed under your major and minor pectoralis muscles, while subglandular implants are placed over those muscles.
Decisions about Incisions?
Deciding on the incision and where it will be does depend on the kind of implant that you end up choosing, and you will have to take into consideration how your scar heals. Some of the different types of incisions include:
• Transaxillary – under the arms, near the armpit
• Periareolar– around the areola, right under the nipple region of the breast
• Inframammary – the area right beneath the breast
What does the procedure look like?
Generally, what the procedure looks like is that first the anesthesia will be administered, with your choice of either local sedation or deep sedation. Right after that, the doctor will make the incision at the site that you and the doctor have chosen to insert the implant. Then the implant will be inserted either in the subpectoral position or the subglandular position. Lastly the doctor will close up your incisions with sutures, surgical tape, or skin adhesive. Over time the incision line will fade away. Immediately after the surgery you will be able to see the results, and after the recovery process, you can enjoy showing off your new look.
